House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was visibly nervous to respond to a question from ABC’s Jon Karl about Elon Musk’s claim that President Donald Trump is in the Jeffrey Epstein files.
In an interview on ABC’s This Week Sunday, Karl pressed Johnson to address why the files have not been made public despite some Republicans in the House clamoring for their release.
“Do you know what [Musk is] talking about with the Epstein files?” Karl asked Johnson. “And why haven’t those files been released?
Johnson squirmed at the query — shaking his head and swallowing hard as he delivered the same non-response as FBI Director Kash Patel did three days earlier when confronted on the topic by Joe Rogan.
“As Kash said, ‘that’s not my lane,'” Johnson replied with a nervous laugh. “I don’t know. I can tell you that we have no concern about President Trump or his involvement in any of that nonsense.”
Earlier in the interview, Karl asked whether Musk “crossed a line” with his attacks on the president. Johnson demurred.
“I think there’s a lot of emotion involved in it, but it’s in the interest of the country for everybody to work together, and I’m going to continue to try to be a peacemaker in all this,” he said.
