Steve Bannon hosted Trump National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt just hours after she was cut-off mid-interview by CNN anchor Kasie Hunt for repeatedly attacking the network’s chosen moderators for Thursday’s presidential election debate – Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.
As former President Donald Trump’s ex-chief strategist, Bannon was not willing to miss a trick in amplifying Leavitt’s clash on his War Room show. He called for an immediate apology from CNN and demanded Trump “cancel” the debate completely.
Speaking to Leavitt about the incident on CNN This Morning, Bannon took to questioning how the presidential debate CNN is hosting could be considered fair when the network is “so biased that they show absolutely no respect to the president’s national press secretary.”
Defending Leavitt’s attacks on the moderators, he continued: “You were bringing up what we refer to as news items, it is a news story and a news item that Jake Tapper hates President Trump and has a history of it on social media, same with Dana Bash. How can they not address that? And why are we in Atlanta, ma’am, with CNN, who controls the microphone on Thursday?”
The press secretary replied: “President Trump delivers on his promises. And he said repeatedly, came from him, he will debate Joe Biden anytime, anywhere, anyplace. And so here we are. We’re headed to Atlanta Thursday night. But CNN showed their hand with me on their network this
Leavitt continued to argue that her experience was proof that there “is not going to be a fair debate on Thursday.” She said that Trump knows that “he’s going into a lion’s den” and into a “three-on-one fight” with President Joe Biden, Tapper and Bash.
Bannon then pressed for Trump to step away from the debate: “I certainly would never correct the national press secretary of President Trump, but they didn’t cut off your mic? They dumped you and went to another break. I’ve never seen such disrespect. They have never in the history of television ever taken a national press secretary and treated her with such lack of respect. Kasie Hunt owes you an apology. CNN owes you an apology today.”
He added: “To the Trump campaign and to MAGA today, President Trump should cancel this. It’s not three on one. They have the entire news apparatus because she had a producer. You know, Caroline, you’ve done so much
