Trump voters have favorable views of most members of the British Royal Family, but for some reason they really, really don’t like former Suits star and current Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.
According to a new The Economist/YouGov poll, Markle — also known as Her Royal Highness Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel — is well above water with Americans overall, with 47 percent holding “somewhat” or “very” favorable views of her, versus 33 percent who view her unfavorably.
The princess was viewed even more favorably among most subgroups, but the greatest disparity in Ms. Markle’s favorability was determined by respondents’ 2020 presidential vote.
Among respondents who voted for President Joe Biden, 72 percent viewed Markle favorably, versus just 14 percent who held an unfavorable view. But among Trump voters, 62 percent said they view Markle unfavorably, versus 25 percent who hold favorable views of her.
A similar but less stark divide existed in favorability for Prince Harry, Ms. Markle’s husband. Among Biden voters, 76 percent
Respondents were also asked their views about other members of the Royal Family, and there was strong agreement between Biden and Trump voters on every other count. Most royals are viewed favorably, with the exceptions of Prince Charles, Camilla (nee Parker Bowles), Duchess of Cornwall. and Prince Andrew, and voters agreed they have little idea who the frick some of them even are.
And everybody loves the late Lady Diana Spencer, Princess Di to most of us. Among all respondents, 66 percent view Princess Di favorably versus just 9 percent unfavorable, including 79%-6% among Biden voters and 67%-11% among Trump voters.
