Woman Stabbed In D.C. While National Guard Dined Across the Street, Suspect Still At Large

A woman was stabbed in Washington D.C. on Wednesday while National Guard troops dined directly across the street.

The victim, whose identity has not been released to the public, was stabbed on the 700 block of H Street Northeast around 3:47 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The suspect, a woman in her mid-fifties, fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended.

While the stabbing occurred, three members of the National Guard were eating on the patio of a taqueria directly across the street, The Atlantic reported. Members of the guard had been frequently passing through the intersection throughout the day.

Despite the guard’s baffling proximity to the violence, the suspect, who MPD officials said goes by the name “Candy”, successfully eluded arrest. She was last seen on foot, moving east from the location of the stabbing. The suspect had a black ponytail and was wearing a blue dress, white shoes, a hat, and a dark colored purse, said police.

President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard earlier

in August to address crime in the nation’s capital. Troops from DC itself, as well as five other states, were sent to the Capitol. Trump also named Terry Cole, the head of the Drug and Enforcement Administration, to take control of the city’s Metropolitan Police Department.

The moves came after the assault on Elon Musk protégé and former DOGE employee Edward “Big Balls” Coristine – who was beaten by teenagers after attempting to stop a carjacking in the Capitol earlier this month.

Trump has touted the drop in crime in the city since the deployment of the guard, boasting about the city’s multi-day stretch without a murder.

“They haven’t seen that happen in years,” he said on Monday.

Trump posted less than a week before the stabbing that “Washington, D.C. is SAFE AGAIN!”
