The Daily Show’s official Twitter/X account roasted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for saying Iran’s been “weeks away” from nukes for the last 30 years.
Last week, Israel launched a series of attacks on Iran in what was essentially a full declaration of war. Iran returned fire shortly after, and the two have repeatedly launched attacks on one another since. At the time of writing, Israel’s attacks had proven to be more effective — destroying nuclear facilities, armaments, and killing countless political leaders. Israel claimed the first barrage of strikes were “preemptive” and their purpose was eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Israel’s initial attack came just days before Iran and the U.S. were set to discuss a potential nuclear deal.
Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have maintained that their actions had to be done to prevent Iran from manufacturing nuclear weapons. The prime minister even estimated that the country could produce nuclear bombs within the next few months.

Most recently, there was June 12, 2025:
If not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time. It could be a year. It could be within a few months.
Back in 2015, the prime minister said:
Iran is so dangerous… Weeks away from having the fissile material for an entire arsenal of nuclear bombs.
Nine years earlier in 2006, he claimed:
Iran is gearing up to have, to produce 25 bombs — atomic bombs — a year. Two-hundred fifty bombs in a decade.
In 1995 — a full 30 years before last week’s attack — Netanyahu said:
Iran will be capable of producing — alone, without importing anything — nuclear bombs withing three-to-five years.
