Democratic strategist James Carville claimed that the Democratic Party was “winning elections left and right” on Wednesday after being confronted with the party’s low favorability ratings.

Asked by CNN host Kaitlan Collins for his response to a poll that showed the Democratic Party’s favorability rating had dropped by 12% since September, while the Republican Party’s favorability rating had risen, Carville said:

I don’t doubt any of that’s true, but there’s one thing. We’re winning elections left and right as we’re talking about how the Democratic number or image is low, it’s in the toilet, or whatever you want to say. I don’t dispute that.We just won an election in Omaha and beat a 12-year incumbent. We’re winning elections in Senate districts and House districts that Trump carried in Iowa by 20. We’re winning the elections. We won in Wisconsin by 10.So I don’t– I’m not that upset and angst about mid-May of 2025. I think if we start, you know– We’ve got Virginia coming up, we’re gonna win that. The political press is gonna be reporting polling numbers and I’m gonna be looking at election results.

He concluded, “I mean, it’s just– it’s true the party doesn’t have much image, but it’

s true at least in these off-year elections that they’re voting for the Democrat.”

An AP-NORC poll this month showed that just 36% of Americans currently had a favorable view of the Democratic Party, versus 41% for the Republican Party. The Democratic Party dropped 12% in the poll since September 2024, while the Republican Party went up by 2%.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) urged fellow Democrats to “be honest with people about our party’s mistake” on Wednesday, admitting it was “obvious now” that former President Joe Biden was “not in a condition to run” for re-election due to his declining health and cognitive acuity.
