FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino and Director Kash Patel dismissed conspiracy theories about the death of sexual predator and human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein during a joint interview Sunday on Fox News.
Bongino stated clearly that Epstein’s 2019 death at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City was a suicide and nothing more.
Speaking on Sunday Morning Futures with host Maria Bartiromo, Bongino and Patel were pressed on widespread skepticism surrounding Epstein’s death, which has fueled years of speculation.
Both officials said the evidence supports the conclusion that Epstein died by suicide.
Bartiromo said to Patel, “You said Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide. People don’t believe it.”
Patel replied, “Well, I mean, listen, they have a right to their opinion, but as someone who has worked as a public defender, as a prosecutor, who’s been in that prison system, who has been in the Metropolitan Detention Center. Who’s been in segregated housing. You know a suicide when you see one, and that’s what that was.”
Bongino interjected, “He killed himself. Again, you want me to get, I’ve… I’ve seen the whole file. He killed himself.”
Neither address the release of a trove of documents about Epstein that Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed to release three months ago.
The comment is particularly notable coming from Bongino — who, prior to assuming his new post at the FBI, trafficked in Epstein conspiracy
“You do not know all the details of this thing, I promise,” Bongino said on Feb. 7.
After the interview, Bongino took to his X account to explain the reason he and Patel sat down with Bartiromo. He also doubled down on Epstein’s death, which he said was suicide.
“I haven’t done any media interviews to this point because I want to keep the attention on the work,” Bongino wrote. “I don’t work for myself anymore, I work for you. But it is important to relay to you what we’re doing, and the media can be a tool for that. That’s why we chose a long-form interview with Maria Bartiromo for our first interview. He added:
I was asked about some of the details surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case. I have reviewed the case. Jeffrey Epstein killed himself. There’s no evidence in the case file indicating otherwise. I’m not asking you to believe me, or not. I’m telling you what exists, and what doesn’t. If new evidence surfaces I’m happy to reevaluate.
