Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) believes Republicans will lose support from Americans and their base if the GOP does not impeach President Joe Biden.
The House voted on Wednesday to formally authorize the impeachment inquiry into the president despite failing to provide evidence indicating Biden benefitted from his family’s business dealings. Republicans have accused Biden of using his position as vice president to enrich his family from his son Hunter Biden’s overseas dealings in Ukraine and China.
CNN’s Manu Raju interviewed Green, the chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, who believes Republicans need to move forward with impeachment or else the political blowback will devastate the party.
“Do you think going down these impeachment routes could be a problem politically,” Raju asked the GOP lawmaker on Capitol Hill in an interview aired on Thursday.
“No, I don’t,” Green responded. “In fact, I think if we don’t go down these impeachment routes, a huge part of America is going to just say, you know, we’re not supporting Republicans anymore.”
Meanwhile, Raju interviewed moderate out-going Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) who encouraged Republicans not to “fuel the fire of the political discourse” by impeaching Biden.
