Jimmy Kimmel roasted President Donald Trump on Wednesday for asking Americans to “be patient” with his promise of lower prices.
Prior to being sworn into office in January, Trump heavily campaigned on the issue of inflation and vowed to lower the prices of everyday goods — namely groceries. Although his administration has repeatedly touted the decreased price of eggs, that campaign promise has yet to come to fruition.
Further complicating matters was Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on the U.S.’s trade partners. Although he announced a 90-day pause on the tariffs, his ongoing trade war with China has continued to create economic uncertainty.
On Wednesday, it was reported that U.S. GDP dropped in the first quarter of 2025 — the country’s first contraction since 2022. In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed the negative economic results were the remnants of former President Joe Biden’s term and urged Americans to be patient for his plan to take effect.
Kimmel claimed “the buck stops wherever he wants it to stop.”
“‘Be patient,'” Kimmel said. “What happened to the guy who promised it would all happen on day one? ‘Be patient.’ What happened to the guy who, less than 100 days into his first presidency, crowed, ‘Since November 8, Election Day, the stock market has posted $3.2 trillion in gains and consumer confidence is at a 15-year high. Jobs!
“The buck stops whenever he wants it to stop, and consumer confidence at its lowest level since May of 2020. You remember what happened in May of 2020? We were fighting old ladies for toiler paper in 2020.
