MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle and her guests agreed that President Joe Biden is blameless on high gas prices that have plagued his administration and are rising again, instead pointing the finger at Donald Trump and a conspiracy among foreign powers to see him elected.
Biden has suffered low approval ratings for most of his time in office and particularly as the November election approaches, with voters often citing the economy, inflation, high food prices, and high gas prices among other concerns about his age, memory, competence, foreign policy failures, and Israel policies.
But the gas prices, MSNBC host Ruhle stated emphatically, are ” are not the fault of President Biden.”
Instead, she and guests Tim Miller of The Bulwark and former Bernie Sanders campaign adviser Chuck Rocha blamed Saudi Arabia and Russia wanting Trump to defeat Biden for the high prices, and the ignorance of average Americans for why that works.
“The last thing that President Biden wants or needs is rising gas prices. But do you know who wants them? Saudi Arabia, Russia and their bestie, bestie, best: Donald Trump,” said Ruhle to kick off the discussion. “Should President Biden be explaining this to the American people?”
Miller replied that he isn’t sure how much “explaining” that would help Biden with voters, but that “it’s pretty clear” that both Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Russian President Vladimir Putin “would rather have Donald Trump
“So there might be some monkey business with oil prices that goes beyond June, you know, into this year,” said Miller. “I think that’s something that the White House is gonna have to contend with.”
Turning to Rocha, Ruhle asked about blame for gas prices being directed at Biden by the public.
“These prices are not the fault of President Biden,” she forcefully decreed. “We’ve got the highest oil production in U.S. history and some overseas oil producers who would like to help DJT.”
Rocha brought up a “Republicans pounce” argument and said regular people just blame whoever is in charge “even if he has nothing to do” with it.
“They’re going to blame Joe Biden. And the other side knows it,” he said.
