The Late Show host Stephen Colbert ridiculed Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance on Wednesday, comparing him to a plank of wood and a “toddler in front of you on the airplane.”
“There’s more good news for the Harris campaign in the form of bad news for Trump’s running mate, Ohio senator and toddler in front of you on an airplane JD Vance,” said Colbert during his show:
Traditionally, after the conventions, the VP boosts the favorability rating of the ticket. But according to the polls, JD Vance is the least liked VP nominee in decades. He’s even more unpopular than Grover Cleveland’s running mate, Eustace T. Babypuncher. You remember his campaign slogan, ‘Why is that baby staring at me?’ Among other problems, Vance is the least experienced major party running mate in nearly nine decades, and critics say he doesn’t radiate charm and charisma. Oh come on, you’re telling me this guy has no charisma?
Colbert then displayed a photo of a plank of wood.
“What’s that? I’m sorry, I’m being told that is a plank of wood, not JD Vance,” The Late Show host remarked. “Jim, could we get a picture of JD Vance?”
Colbert proceeded to display a photo of the same plank of wood with a beard edited onto it.
“There we go,” he mocked.
