The Huffington Post, which broke the story that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was accusing Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney of paying nothing in taxes for a 10 year period, took to the internet with another scoop that might keep the fading story alive – Reid was revealing details about his source. Reid’s office claimed that the source was close to Bain Capital and Romney and was — gasp — a Republican. The story made a splash for a tense 34 minutes on Thursday night before Reid’s office reached out to HufPo to note that they could not confirm Reid’s source was, in fact, a Republican.

A top aide to Sen. Reid, Jose Parra, appeared on a Los Angeles-based radio program with host Mario Solis-Marich on KTLK where he claimed that he knew specific details about Reid’s source.

“This person is an investor in Bain Capital, a Republican also, and somebody who has been dealing with Romney’s company for a long,

long time and he has direct knowledge of this,” said Para.

The Huffington Post wrote this scoop up and posted it at approximately 6:34 p.m. on Thursday night. After reaching out to Para for details, they were let down to discover that Para was not the source was actually a Republican. By 7:08 p.m., they posted Para’s correction:

“I do not know the party affiliation of the source, how long he invested with Bain, or his relationship to Romney beyond the fact that he was an investor with Bain Capital, as Senator Reid has previously stated,” Para told HufPo.
