The real estate mogul was speaking with NH1 in New Hampshire on Thursday, where he took questions on a multitude of subjects, including his past donations to the Clinton Foundation. Trump was eventually asked about his veterans affairs adviser, Al Baldasaro, who was investigated by the Secret Service in July after saying Clinton needs to be shot for “treason” due to her controversial actions as Secretary of State.
“I didn’t know that. But I will tell you [Baldasaro]’s a very fine person,” Trump said when asked if he approved of the remarks. “Nobody wants to take care of the veterans in this country, who have been treated horribly, more than Al, so that’s what I know.”
When asked again if he condoned Baldasaro’s words, Trump deflected with “I don’t know what he said. You’d have
Baldasaro recently expressed regret for saying things the way he did, and he put out a statement through his wife’s Twitter account to elaborate on his thoughts. Even so, Baldasaro seemed to get defensive on his original statement when he put out this tweet over how how his words were characterized on Twitter.
Of course, this is not the first time Trump played coy when asked about highly-publicized, troubling remarks made by his supporters.
