Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) boosted the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, on Thursday to become the next Speaker of the House.
Greene replied to a post from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a deficit hawk, who suggested Musk should lead the House to “disrupt the swamp.”
“The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress . . Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds),” wrote the Kentucky Republican on X.
Greene, who has long grabbed headlines for pushing conspiracies like claiming the government controls the weather and creates hurricanes, was quick to promote Paul’s idea. “I’d be open to supporting @elonmusk for Speaker of the House. DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress to enact real government efficiency,” she replied to Paul, adding:
The establishment needs to be shattered just like it was yesterday. This could be the way.
Musk led
Greene, whose state of Georgia was impacted by the hurricanes earlier in the year, also slammed the proposal saying, “It’s not a CR, which is a continuation of the budget. It’s turning into an omnibus.”
If Congress doesn’t come together on a bill to keep the government funded it will shutdown on December 20th.
Democrats cried foul on Wednesday after Musk, and eventually Trump, successfully moved to kill Johnson’s proposal. Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) accused Trump of being Musk’s “puppet.” “As the shadow Pres-Elect, Elon Musk is now calling the shots for House Rs on government funding while Trump hides in Mar-a-Lago behind his handlers,” Goldman wrote on X in reply to Musk declaring, “Absolutely, this bill should NOT pass. A new bill that isn’t an insane crime against the American people should be done in 33 days.”
Goldman added, “It increasingly seems like we’re in for 4 years of an unelected oligarch running the country by pulling on his puppet’s strings.”
