Charlamagne tha God suggested Thursday that President Donald Trump is using the Justice Department to retaliate against New York Attorney General Letitia James (D).

On Thursday’s broadcast of The Breakfast Club, the host called the fraud investigation into James “retaliation” for her pushing a successful civil case against him beginning in 2022.

James is the subject of a federal probe into alleged real estate fraud. Earlier this week, she addressed the media regarding the investigation, calling it politically motivated.

“This investigation into me is nothing more than retribution,” she said Tuesday. “It’s baseless.”

A day later, Trump said James was guilty of committing fraud on a mortgage application.

Charlamagne reacted to a clip of Trump’s claim and responded.

“We do know that Tish James is absolutely correct, right?” he said. “This is just retaliation for the charges that Tish James brought against Donald Trump.”

The hosted concluded:

Like, Donald Trump has a list, and Tish James is high on that list, as I’m sure Alvin Bragg is. Alvin Bragg been very quiet. Probably rightfully so. But, you know, we do know this is retaliation.

Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, brought a separate criminal case against Trump last year related to alleged hush money payments. Trump was subsequently found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.

In James’s civil case against Trump and his company, the Trump Organization was alleged to have inflated property values to secure

favorable loans and insurance rates.

That case concluded with a judge ordering Trump to pay more than $350 million in penalties and banning him from operating a business in New York for three years.

Trump accused James of going after him for political purposes.

During her 2018 campaign for state attorney general, James said she intended to closely scrutinize Trump, his family, and his business dealings.
