CNN’s Jeremy Diamond reported on the graphic images out of Rafah showing the aftermath of an Israeli strike on a campsite for displaced people that led to at least 45 deaths.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the strike a “tragic mistake” on Monday and said it is being investigated.
“Their blood-curdling screams tell the story of the unfolding horror more than words ever could,” Diamond reported as Palestinians could be heard screaming and seen fighting fires left in the wake of the strike. “But it is only after bodies are pulled out of the inferno that the scale of this attack becomes clear.”
The strikes flattened a block of makeshift shelters where the displaced Palestinians had been housed.
Israel’s strikes on Gaza have led to thousands of civilian deaths and calls for a ceasefire. Netanyahu has said the strikes will continue until Hamas is eliminated. The terror group attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing more than 1,000 and kidnapping hundreds of others.
The Israeli military said the Rafah strike killed two senior Hamas members. Civilian casualties were not expected.
“So many children writhing in pain,” Diamond reported as he showed two children being treated after the strike, one so badly burned he could not open his eyes.
