Former President Donald Trump lashed out over a delay in the trial involving E. Jean Carroll — whom a jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming — despite the fact that it was his lawyers who decided on the delay.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to complain Monday morning that he showed up to court all for nothing when he could have been campaigning in New Hampshire — while also repeating false attacks:
I traveled late last night from the Great State of New Hampshire to New York to attend one of the many Crooked Joe Biden-inspired Witch Hunt trials. Despite the fact that I was there, on time and on schedule, it was just learned that one of the jurors is, unfortunately, not feeling well, and for that reason, today’s session of the trial, having to do with a woman I know absolutely nothing about, has therefore been cancelled with a new date to be determined. Of course, all of these various “Biden Political Opponent” trials just happen to be starting, with great purpose, in the middle of what will be the most important Election in the History of our Country. They could have all began years ago, or years after, but, certainly not DURING the Election. In actuality, they should have never been brought at all, because I have done nothing wrong. It is what it is, and I will do what I have to do, all I ask for is fair Judges and Juries,
and I will win every one of them.…
But on Monday’s edition of CNN News Central, CNN senior legal analyst Paula Reid explained that when the juror’s condition was discovered, Trump’s attorneys were given the choice of continuing with one fewer juror or delaying the trial:
All right, so I’m reading live updates from our colleagues, Sara, who are inside the courtroom. And they say that the judge sent home a juror who felt sick on their way to court this morning. So court is going to be adjourned for the day. Now, the judge also said that Alina Habba and one of her associates, that’s former President Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, tested negative for Covid, but she tested because she said that she had dinner with her parents three days ago, and now they have Covid. Now Habba also said she has a fever and isn’t feeling well. But so far she has not tested positive. Now, our reporter inside the court says she does not appear to be wearing a mask. She’s also sitting right next to her client, former President Trump. Now, the judge did give them an option to proceed with just eight jurors. ButE. Jean Carroll’s lawyer said that would be fine. But the Trump team said that they wanted an adjournment for the day.
