President Joe Biden was asked during his interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos about the surge of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In a preview released by ABC, Stephanopoulos said, “A lot of the migrants coming in are saying they’re coming in because you promised to make things better. It seems to be getting worse.”

“Was it a mistake not to anticipate this surge?” he asked.

Biden said “there was a surge the last two years,” but Stephanopoulos said, “This one might be worse.”

When the anchor directly asked Biden, “Do you have to say quite clearly ‘Don’t come’?”, Biden responded:

“Yes. I can say quite clearly don’t come… Don’t leave your town or city or community.”

The full interview airs Wednesday on Good Morning America.
