Mediaite contributing editor Larry O’Connor was not impressed by last night’s politicized Emmy awards, not impressed at all — as he explained while appearing on Fox Business this morning.
O’Connor said Hollywood celebrities are not doing themselves any favors by continually politicizing their content:
It was ridiculous last night — and you wonder why network ratings are going down the tubes. The fact is that they acknowledged last night that the American people are more interested in news, politics, business, and who gets to win in that equation. Well, Fox and Fox Business, don’t they?
O’Connor also made a “coastal elite” jab, saying that there is “a whole lot of country in-between [Washington and Los Angeles], and the rest of the country feels ignored or… mocked and ridiculed” by the celebrities insulting the president.
Last night’s ratings were in fact a flaming garbage fire, as the awards show tried to compete with an NBC Sunday Night Football game and lost — this year’s performance even hit a new record low, according to Deadline. The 69th Emmy’s slump represents a three-year-streak where the show has continually declined in the ratings game.
Host Stephen Colbert even brought out former White House press secretary Sean Spicer to aid in boosting the show’s appeal. “This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period! Both in person
