Former US Attorney and CNN senior legal analyst Preet Bharara said tonight we should be cautious about the BuzzFeed report on President Donald Trump telling Michael Cohen to lie about the Trump Tower Moscow project.
Last night when the news broke Bharara tweeting that he’s reserving judgment until more proof comes out:
On CNN tonight, he spoke with Wolf Blitzer about the report and said if it’s true, “it’s bad news for the Trump presidency.”
However, he expressed caution and said people should wait for more:
“If they can prove to a lot of people beyond a reasonable doubt that Donald Trump really did direct this lying and he suborned perjury, then I think it’s devastating for the presidency, which is one reason why I’ve been urging a little bit of caution. It would be the most damaging thing I think that has come into play with respect to this entire investigation… and so because the stakes are so high and because it is such an important thing and because it could be so devastating to the presidency, until I see some other news outlets, including CNN and others, confirm some of the important details, the central details, I would just proceed with a little bit of caution.”
