Stephen A. Smith defended Elon Musk and said Democrats should give the billionaire a chance to see how he performs as de facto head of the “Department of Government Efficiency.”
Though the White House maintains Musk is not the official head of “DOGE,” the Republican megadonor has been a ubiquitous presence in President Donald Trump’s administration. Musk and his team have laid off thousands of workers at various government agencies while freezing funds already appropriated by Congress. On Thursday, it was reported that Musk was poised to have a $2.7 billion government contract taken from Verizon and given to Starlink, a subsidiary of Musk’s SpaceX.
Smith joined Thursday’s edition of Hannity on Fox News where the ESPN talking head gabbed about politics while generally avoiding policy specifics as is his wont, though he did tell Sean Hannity that if he were leader of the Democratic Party, he would rid it of “wokeness.”
“Again, there are liberal things I agree with, and there’s some conservative things I agree with,” Smith said. “Let me tell you where I think Democrats are really, really messing up when it comes to Donald Trump at this particular moment in time.”
Smith then said he objects to some Democrats’ criticism of Musk’s role while citing that Musk is not an elected official and is from South Africa.
