Back in the 1990s, could any futurist have predicted that a hallmark of our modern dystopia would be watching billion-dollar companies duke it out via pithy statements on the Internet as we scramble to afford health insurance and foodstuffs? Well, ok maybe. Still, here we are.

Some lowly intern at McDonald’s social media department made a crucial mistake and forgot to paste relevant information into a Black Friday tweet and now the Internet is going crazy.

As you can see, they posted the tweet before confirming whatever McRib or Quarter Pounder joke they were going to go with, leading a lowly intern at rival fast food giant Wendy’s to poke fun at not only their tweet, but their ability to serve up quality ice cream.

McDonald’s was forced to reply, owning up to the social media snafu and blaming the whole thing on a lack of coffee. In other news, 14.5 percent of Americans live below the poverty level.

#8217;s added insult to injury, basking in the glory of their “savage” tweet at the expense of poor, Quasimodo-esque McDonald’s, whose last valuation clocked in at around $100 billion.

They didn’t stop there. Wendy’s laid into the company further by continuing to mock their original tweet, a move that was no doubt celebrated by the 44 million Americans who owe more than $1.45 trillion in student loan debt.

As McDonald’s wallowed in their own despair, Wendy’s simply couldn’t help themselves from kicking the company while they were down. Also, McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook made $15 million last year and Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor made over $5 million, while wages for the average American worker have remained stagnant for decades.

This monumental ordeal follows a recent spat between Papa John’s and Pizza Hut, after Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter claimed that the recent NFL protests have hurt his company’s bottom line. Another bottom line hurt? Life expectancy in America has gone down for the first time in 22 years.

It must also be noted, the leader of the free world, President Donald Trump, did something similar last week as he attempted to tweet out condolences to the victims of one of our nation’s many

mass shootings, pasting copy from a previous tweet in which he offered condolences to the victims of another of our nation’s many mass shootings. Cool.

Science fiction authors, be warned, your job is done here. We have truly entered uncharted territory. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
