President Donald Trump lashed out at India and threatened former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a late-night social media post on Wednesday.

“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” wrote Trump on Truth Social after placing tariffs and an unspecified penalty on India for buying Russian oil and weapons. “We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World. Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way.”

Trump went on to threaten the former Russian president, concluding, “And tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!”

Medvedev warned Trump this week that his “ultimatum game with Russia” over the Ukraine conflict was bringing Russia and the United States closer “towards war.”

“Trump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia:

50 days or 10… He should remember 2 things: 1. Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war,” said Medvedev. “Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road!”

In a series of Truth Social posts earlier on Wednesday, Trump announced that his administration would place a 25% tariff on India, as well as an unspecified “penalty,” after complaining about India’s relationship with Russia and about its tariffs on U.S. goods being “far too high.”

“Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country,” wrote Trump. “Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE — ALL THINGS NOT GOOD!”

He announced, “INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!”

In May, India dismissed Trump’s claim that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after

the president took credit for the deal.
