After conflicting messages about where Palestinians would or could live in a controversial plan for the US to take over Gaza, President Donald Trump made clear to Fox News anchor Bret Baier that they would NOT have the right to return to what they consider their homeland.
Last week, Trump surprised the world in a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he intends for the United States to take over Gaza strip and redevelop it into what seemed to be a luxury resort development for “world citizens.” At the time it was not clear where the Palestinians would be relocated to, and if that were to be permanent. However, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that the ethnic cleansing of the war-ravaged area would only be temporary.
During a Super Bowl interview conducted at Mar-a-Lago, Baier asked Trump flatly if “Palestinians would “have the right to return,” to which the president simply answered “No, they wouldn’t, because they’re going to have much better housing.”
TRUMP: We’ll build beautiful communities for the 1.9 million people. We’ll build beautiful communities, safe communities. Could be five, six, could be two. But we’ll build safe communities, a little bit away from where they are, where all of this danger is. In the meantime, I would own this. Think of it as a real estate development for the future. It would be
a beautiful piece of land. No big money spent.BAIER: Would the Palestinians have the right to return?TRUMP: No, they wouldn’t, because they’re going to have much better housing. Much better. In other words, I’m talking about building a permanent place for them because if they have to return now, it’ll be years before you could ever – it’s not habitable. It would be years before it could happen. I’m talking about starting to build, and I think I could make a deal with Jordan. I think I could make a deal with Egypt. You know, we give them billions and billions of dollars a year.
Only seven minutes of the Trump-Baier interview aired on Fox before the Super Bowl. More of the interview will air on Special Report on Monday evening. This clip was teased Monday morning on Fox & Friends.
