Clippers Player Issues Statement on Sterling: ‘Serious Issue We Will Address Aggressively’

L.A. Clippers point guard Chris Paul put out a statement today, along with a statement by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson reacting to team owner Donald Sterling‘s alleged racist rant. Paul says “this is a very serious issue which we will address aggressively,” and promises that the players will power through, saying “we owe it to our teams and our fans to keep our focus on our game, the playoffs, and a drive to the Finals.”

Johnson, a former NBA player himself, also issued a statement condemning Sterling’s comments. Here’s part of what he said.

The reported comments made by Clippers owner Donald Sterling are reprehensible and unacceptable. The National Basketball Players Association must and will play a very active role in determining how this issue is addressed. There needs to be an immediate investigation and if the reports are true, there needs to be strong and swift action taken.

The firestorm has been swift and powerful, with calls left and right for Sterling to go as soon as possible.
