The Anchorage Daily News is reporting that a small plane carrying at least eight people, possibly including former Sen. Ted Stevens, crashed last night near Dillingham, Alaska. Search parties have been sent to the scene of the crash and the story is still developing, but many news sources are now reporting that the former Senator was in deed on the plane that crashed. Update: Local news now reports that Ted Stevens did not survive the crash.

According to MarketWatch:

Former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens was killed in a plane crash near Dillingham, Alaska, NBC affiliate KTUU reported Tuesday on its website, citing a former aide and family friend. Dave Dittman told KTUU that Stevens was among the five dead in the crash Monday night.

Fingers crossed for the families who have possible loved ones in that crash. Noone should have to go through something so horrific.

Tragic- there is something about flying in Alaska and politicians.

Remember that Thomas Hale Boggs, father of Cokie Roberts, and Nicholas Joseph Begich were never found after a presumed plane crash. Heck, Nixon sent a SR-71 Blackbird to Alaska to search for them.

I’ve managed to mostly ignore it since you started this ad campaign, but I think the red C in the headline here crosses the line.

Agreed. The ad really feels inappropriate in a headline detailing the death of a former US Senator.

What an absolutely horrible death! I wish peace for his family and the rest for Senator Stevens, and the same for the other in the plane with him.
