Justice Stevens Likely To Retire This Month Says CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin

Rumors have been swirling that 89-year-old John Paul Stevens will be retiring from his position as Supreme Court Justice, due in large part to statements Stevens made both in today’s New York Times article and a recent interview in Washington Post. Though Stevens has not made any declarations about leaving immediately and has acknowledged the difficulties of filling a Supreme Court seat before midterm elections, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin (who interviewed Stevens for the New Yorker) believes that the Justice will do so before his 90th birthday…which is coming up in less than three weeks.

Smart move for Stevens, if he wants someone with similar ideology to replace him. After this year, it will be a long, long, long time before the Democrats have 59 votes in the Senate.

It’s a done deal that Stevens is retiring at the end of this term. He only hired one law clerk for next year. (Active justices get three law clerks; retired justices only get one.)

This is TERRIBLE news!!1 The absolute LAST thing we need right now is for the Obamessiah to install another SOCIOFASCIST Justice full of “empathy”!!1 And we all know that “empathy”, like “progressive”, is a HIDDEN CODE WORD!!1 We must make our VOICES HEARD and immediately contact Justice Stevens, letting him know the DANGER our Once Proud Republic will be in if he retires now!!1 PLEASE wait 5 more years so SARAH PALIN can appoint your successor!!1
