NPR Receives Bomb Threat, Begins Taking Extra Precautions

NPR reportedly received a bomb threat yesterday amidst a week of controversy over the firing of news analyst Juan Williams. From the Washington Post:

Sources at the news organization said the threat was received via U.S. mail and was immediately turned over to local police and the FBI. The organization did not publicly disclose the threat or release details, on the advice of law enforcement officials.

The letter didn’t reference the Williams firing specifically, but people at NPR, who spoke about it on the condition of anonymity, said the timing and tone suggested it was sent after Williams’s widely publicized termination.

The organization, which is based in Washington D.C., says it’s taking extra precautions.

“We’re taking extra precautions today,” NPR spokeswoman Anna Christopher said Tuesday, without saying what prompted the precautions. “We’re being more aware of who’s entering the building” and generally being more vigilant. She said the organization’s security staff has been making extra checks of the building’s garage.

It will be interesting to see the sort of coverage this gets.

I’m sure they are are out there if I look for them…….but that fails to answer the question: what do they gain? If they are so left wing biased, are they going get 150% more support from the people who already support them? Are they going to get support from a part of the population that obviously thinks they’re left-biased? I think not. They’ll get even less is there’s truth to the claims that the country is starting to lean back the right.

Having said that, I vaguely remember the story about the census taker, but since you mentioned it I decided the go ahead a google the story and see what I have. Now….just to be sure I get the full story, which version should I read?

Rachel Maddow Interviews Joe Miller – While Walking To A Car

videoRachel Maddow was excited, and she wanted all of us to know about it. She finally landed an interview with Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller, the guy behind lines like this and ads like this. This was going to be good. She certainly thought so:

She teased the interview for her entire program (taped in Alaska), and then, at the end, finally showed it. And it was…well, pretty uneventful. She also called it “very strange,” since Maddow and Miller walked (and at one point, rode down an escalator) the entire time she peppered him with questions, with Miller eventually reaching his SUV and riding off with a thumbs up.

The interview itself was more mundane than the setting, with Maddow noting how important social issues were to supporters of Miller she talked with and quickly turning to gay rights issues. Miller was evasive on whether he thinks homosexuality is a choice, saying he’s “not gonna intrude upon an individual’s decision as to what he or she does,” as well as that it’s healthy to have “different approaches to different values,” and that gay rights should ultimately be a state issue – despite, as he admitted, his support for the Defense of Marriage Act. Then, Miller got into the SUV in the middle of a question about the 17th Amendment…and that was it.

Certainly, there was nothing nearly as contentious as Maddow’s bang-your-head-against-a-wall back-and-forth with Oregon’s Art Robinson (a welcome sight)…but there wasn’t too much material here, period – a fact Maddow seemed to acknowledge afterward, saying, “I did my best.” Video of the segment below.

So why did Maddow choose gay rights again when knowing she only had a few mnutes to speak with Miller?
I know that this is her #1 priority but she could have used the time on jobs,economy,oil drilling, the health care bill, social security issues etc etc.
Gay rights are important to alot of americans but other things are a bit more pressing these days. I agree what a waste of time.

Yes they are over and over again! False arrests, hate of relegions, stompings! These 1950′s throw backs want the power so bad they will hurt you! Once in office, will they arrest you in the street because they don’t like your relegion, no more civil rights, no more living wage, no more social programs!
