Anderson Cooper And CNN Crew Attacked By Pro-Mubarak Mob In Egypt

video

CNN’s Anderson Cooper has been attacked while reporting for the network in Egypt. The anchor, who’s been reporting nearly nonstop since the weekend, described the attack to viewers this morning shortly after a Twitter report on the incident from CNN’s Steve Brusk, who said Cooper had been “punched 10 times in the head as pro-Mubarak mob surrounded him and his crew trying to cover demonstration.”

Cooper, resuming his live coverage, looked fine and unshaken.

Brusk’s tweet:

Here is Cooper’s report on the incident from CNN below:

Anderson is in a dangerous area, what did he expect? He needs to report from a distance as this turmoil is far from over.

Pretty much the opposite of the teabags who are completely unattractive and usually overweight. The men of the tea party would never do something brave like Anderson has. What a stud.

  • libra blue

According to Richard Engel many journalists are being “mobbed on the streets” because pro-Mubarak supporters are angry with the foreign press.

I am sorry that Anderson and his crew were roughed up, but this is what being a real journalist is all about. If you are on the front lines you are putting yourself in jeopardy, but something tells me CNN is exaggerating this “attack” on Anderson. I didn’t hear Anderson say he was hit in the head 10 times, but that is what they are saying on Twitter. Last time I looked he didn’t look “beat up” and he was reporting safely from a balcony.

@The Lantern of Truth, “He needs bodyguards”

i am sure CNN has supplied Anderson with the best security money can buy.

The streets of Cairo are devolving into chaos.

President Obama is staying clear, except to say he hopes for a peaceful resolution, and that the next government will have “Brotherhood” somewhere in their name! lol

    Egypt update:

The orchestrated thuggery, violence and intimidation on behalf of the current administration continues unabated…and who could have even guessed SEIU had local chapters in Egypt!

Sounds like people are tired of CNN forming an opinion and then staging “man on the street” interviews that confirm that opinion.

  • http://twitter.com/SailRabbits Magister

@libra blue: Steve Brusk and Anderson Cooper reported the story. Neither or whining or complaining; an event happened to which they were witness, so they reported. If it’s being exaggerated, it’s not the reporters who are doing it and it doesn’t sound like Mr. Cooper has complained.

  • http://twitter.com/SailRabbits Magister

BTW – @libra blue: As I re-read my comment, it may appear that I singled you out in disagreement, while I more wanted to build upon you had said.

  • libra blue

@Magister, “If it’s being exaggerated, it’s not the reporters who are doing it and it doesn’t sound like Mr. Cooper has complained.”

As I said, I don’t recall hearing Anderson say that he was hit in the head 10 times. He said they were attacked as a group. CNN is the one exaggerating the story and making Anderson the focus of it.

Unfortunately, Anderson’s entire Twitter page is now dedicated to this “scuffle” and the focus is now on him and no longer on the Egyptian revolution. Reporters should never become the focus of the story they are covering. That is bad journalism no matter who is responsible for it.

    @ Magister and Libra Blue:

Anderson said this morning he and his crew were okay, and then he re-focused the narrative on the two camps rushing each other in the streets.

I haven’t been monitoring the situation this morning, but last night after the speech, suddenly pro-Mubarak groups appeared in Alexandria and Cairo. Again, I haven’t looked this morning, but my feeling last night was at least in the initial stages, they could’ve been astroturfs to embolden those who may feel similarly and to keep up the perception of chaos.

  • Knowledge_Is_Power

I have to say that I think Anderson’s “beat down” was highly exagerated. They showed him live on CNN right after the “attack” and he did not have a scratch, bruise or red mark on his face. If you were punched “10″ times you would have marks on you. I just can’t see you being hit with fists and it leaving no marks. And with Cooper being so white it would show up immediately and be very easy to see.

Someone is pumping this up for all that it is worth!

  • http://twitter.com/SailRabbits Magister

If I may clarify my earlier point because now that I have my desktop in place and the television running, I can see that things have escalated since last night and they likely include legitimate pro-Mubarak protesters.

My “astroturfing” was because there are groups that would benefit from maintaining the status quo. First among them would be the police, who have been accused of doing significant looting and because suddenly about half an hour before the speech, I see my first report of a pro-Mubarak gathering and half an hour after the speech there is what could’ve been a coordinated effort in two cities, both of which had cameras.

You claim that this site is about media personalities yet they always have some raw news article. For example, right now, they have the following post (The Revolution Will Be Streamed: Watch Live Feed Of Egyptian Upheaval) about watching the Egypt chaos, but really has no substance regarding a media personality.

So they hide behind the “it’s about the media” claim yet openly post about politics or news that has no real “media personality” angle.

So as I stated before, as Egyptians fight each other and Anderson Cooper gets his rich butt kicked, US troops are getting killed.

It was pretty fun seeing the FOX’s “fair and balanced” view of the Protests in Egypt in Hannity’s show. Aah how they were so afraid of the Muslim brotherhood and all the extremist groups, and invited that buffoon McCain. Trust me, if this happened under Bush, they would hail the protests..

And talking about Democracy, what makes you guys think that Iraq is much safer to have a secular government than Egypt? There are bombings in Iraq averaging more than once a week and somehow there is no chance that they are going to be took over by extremist gov?

This is the difference between Egypt and Iraq – When people demand change, most of the time, they will get what they want. When Government from other countries demand change in the government of a country, they fail. Look at USSR, India, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, etc..

Some of the times, these revolutions fail, but don’t look at failure and refrain from revolutions..
