Andrea Mitchell Wonders if WaPo Reporter Detained for ‘Reporting While Black’
MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell, a widely respected reporterin Washington, D.C., put out a curious tweet Thursday. In the tweet, Mitchell questioned whether a Washington Post reporter was arrested in Ferguson, Mo., Wednesday evening because he’s black.
“Washington Post demanding why Wesley Lowery taken in prevented from taking video by Ferguson police,” the tweet said. “Detained for reporting while black?”
Lowery was arrested for allegedly not complying with police officers who have been attempting to cool passions in the city rocked by the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown. Lowery was released shortly after he was detained.
As the Washington Examiner‘s Becket Adams rightly notes, however, around the same time Lowery was arrested, Huffington Post reporter Ryan Reilly, who is white, was also arrested. Reilly was arrested, more or less, for the same reason as Lowery.
