House Majority Leader Eric Cantor gave a short concession speech tonight after his primary race was called for tea party challenger Dave Brat earlier. Cantor put things most succinctly at the outset when he said, “Obviously we came up short.”
Cantor thanked his wife, his supporters, and everyone in his office for their loyalty and support over his many years in public office. He talked about his vision for an America “that works for everybody,” and emphasized the need for Republican unity on issues to help relieve struggling Americans.
Noticeably absent from Cantor’s speech was any mention of Brat whatsoever (let alone support), or any suggestion he would continue his campaign as a write-in candidate.
