WATCH: Blackout At Superdome Delays Super Bowl

During the third quarter of tonight’s Super Bowl, the power at the Mercedes Benz Superdome went out entirely, delaying the progress of the game and interrupting CBS’s in-stadium broadcasters.

With 13:22 remaining in the quarter, the players were on field in between plays when the stadium overhead lights went out, eliciting loud gasps from the entire crowd. Only a few lights remained lit at first.

According to reports, a power surge occurred that shut out most of the lights in the dome. Officials said it will take at least 15 minutes for complete restoration, but it ended up taking 34 minutes for play to resume.
