King Richard and the Steven Spielberg remake of West Side Story are Americans’ top choices to win Best Picture at this year’s Oscar Awards ceremony, according to a new poll.
Respondents to a new YouGov poll were asked “Which of the following movies, nominated for Best Picture in this year’s Academy Awards, do you think should win?”
While “not sure” was the runaway winner, the Venus Williams and Serena Williams biopic and Spielberg’s musical topped the list of nominees, with just a percentage point separating them, while Drive My Car came in dead last:
Belfast 4%CODA 3%Don’t Look Up 4%Drive My Car 1%Dune 6%King Richard 7%Licorice Pizza 2%Nightmare Alley 2%The Power of the Dog 4%West Side Story 8%Not sure 58%
The poll also asked respondents “Have you seen the following movies?”, and then listed each of the ten nominated films. The science-fiction epic Dune led the pack with 26 percent of respondents saying they had seen it, followed closely by West
Respondents were also asked “How interested, if at all, are you in the Academy Awards (also called the Oscars)?”, with just over 1 in 4 Americans expressing some interest in the awards. On that question, 9 percent of respondents said they were “Very interested” in the Oscars, and another 19 percent said they were
“Somewhat interested.”
The 94th annual Academy Awards telecast will be hosted by Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall, the first time in three years that the Oscars have had a host. The telecast will not feature an appearance by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
