Newsmax Host Comically Struggles With Newsom’s Recall Victory: ‘This Guy’s Gonna Win ‘Cause of His Hair’
The die was cast pretty early on. From shortly after the polls closed, it was clear that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) would easily beat back the effort to recall him. And one host at Newsmax comically struggled to come to terms with the election results.
On the Tuesday edition of Rob Schmitt Tonight, Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt reported the latest tallies with obvious disdain.
“With 58 percent of the precincts reporting, it is at 68 percent voting to not recall the feckless, self-obsessed governor of California,” Schmitt said. “What are you gonna do?”
Schmitt went on to present his theory as to why Newsom cruised to victory — one which obviously, in his mind, had absolutely nothing to do with policy.
“The hair wins the election, right?” Schmitt said — referring to Newsom’s much-discussed mane. “They say [former President Bill] Clinton won ’cause he was handsome. This guy’s gonna win ’cause of his hair.
Yet like a seasoned pro, Rob Schmitt kept focused on his task and refused to let his personal dismay stand in the way of the broadcast.
“We’re still gonna have a fun show,” Schmitt told his audience. “Even if the news is bad.”
