Olympic Medalist Adam Rippon Stuns GMA With Charming Interview: ‘A Star is Born!’

28-year-old Adam Rippon is the United States’ darling on the ice this year’s Olympics, and he’s quickly becoming the darling of the media as well.

An ebullient Rippon spoke to Good Morning America‘s Amy Robach in PyeongChang about his performance in the figure skating team event. Helped by his strong performance, the U.S. won bronze. (The Olympic athletes from Russia won silver, and Canada took the gold.)

“I thought I was gonna throw up, but I kept it together,” he said.

When he was informed that some people on social media thought that he was robbed of finishing first, Rippon said, jokingly: “I think we need to get those people who think that I was ripped off on a judging panel immediately. Maybe before the individual competition.”

He was also questioned about his statement criticizing the U.S. for choosing Vice President Mike Pence as the leader of the U.S. olympic delegation due to his long record of anti-gay legislation. Rippon has also said that he would boycott a U.S. Olympic team visit to the White House because he doesn’t think he’d feel welcome.

“I personally don’t have anything to say to Mike Pence,” Rippon said. “I’m very lucky because legislation he’s pushed hasn’t affected my life at all. I spoke out because there are people out there whose… lives have been affected by changes that he’s tried to make.”

“Right now I have a voice, and I think it’s really important for me to use it,” he added.

For all the excitement of the Olympics, Rippon has a very clear plan for what he’s going to do when he gets home to the States.

“I’m gonna go to Target, and I’m gonna get a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc Oyster Bay, with the twist top. Immediately.”

The entire GMA panel was thoroughly charmed by Adam.

“That was one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen,” Michael Strahan gushed.

“A star is born!” Robin Roberts exclaimed.
