CNN Poll: Majority Says Avoiding Shutdown More Important Than Continuing DACA
A new CNN poll lays out who the American people would blame if the government shuts down.
56 percent say avoiding a shutdown is more important than continuing DACA, while only 34 percent say the opposite.
A majority of respondents still do support the DACA program, with 84% saying it should continue (the party breakdown shows 72% of Republicans support this).
As far as blame goes, these are CNN’s numbers:
Overall, about half of Americans say they would blame either Trump (21%) or his Republican counterparts in Congress (26%) should Congress fail to fund the government by the midnight Friday deadline. About a third, 31%, say they would hold the Democrats in Congress responsible, and another 10% say they’d blame all three groups.
Republicans have been blaming the Democrats for a potential shutdown and right now #SchumerShutdown is trending on Twitter.
