Monkees lead singer and 1960s cultural icon Davy Jones died in Florida of a heart attack, according to the Associated Press.
Thought of as the Justin Timberlake of his time, Jones, with the help of his Monkees bandmates Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork performed many of the most recognizable pop hits of the era with “I’m a Believer,” “Daydream Believer,” and “Last Train to Clarksville.” They also starred in a popular eponymous comedy show — which reached a whole new generation of fans when it was re-aired on Nickelodeon.
Famously, Jones played himself in a legendary 1971 Brady Bunch episode, where his biggest fan Marcia Brady promised she could get him to sing at a school dance.
He reprised this role in a hilariously epic cameo for the 1995 Brady Bunch movie, performing a grunge cover of his pop song “Girl.”
