With President Trump announcing a ban on transgender soldiers in the military, old pro-LGBT statements from the President and people close to him have resurfaced.
During the campaign, President Trump tweeted to the LGBT community that he will “fight for” them:
You may also remember that he gave a shoutout to the LGBTQ community during his RNC convention speech as he talked about terrorism:
“Only weeks ago, in Orlando, Florida, 49 wonderful Americans were savagely murdered by an Islamic terrorist. This time, the terrorist targeted our LGBTQ community… As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology.”
The crowd cheered at the time, and Trump added, “And I have to say, as a Republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering for what I just said. Thank you.”
And then there’s White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci. Back in February, he took to Twitter to tout how pro-LGBT Trump was and how the media isn’t
And just last month, Ivanka Trump tweeted in support of the LGBTQ community:
The White House will hold an on-camera briefing later this afternoon and will presumably face a lot of questions about the big announcement today.
