Jeff Flake Grilled Over Kavanaugh Vote on The View: ‘I Don’t Know’ if I Believe Christine Ford…or the Judge

Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) stopped by The View Tuesday — where he was grilled over his vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court after facilitating a week-long delay in the process for an FBI investigation into sexual misconduct claims against the judge.

As part of a tense dialogue, Sunny Hostin put the question squarely to the retiring Arizona Senator.

“Did you believe Dr. [Christine] Blasey Ford‘s testimony under oath before the committee?” She asked.

“You know, she was very compelling,” Flake said. “He was very persuasive. I don’t know. I don’t know. I wish I had the certitude that some of my colleagues expressed. But I said on the [Senate] floor before that hearing, we’re likely to hear the hearing with as much doubt as certainty. And that’s how I felt afterwards.”

Joy Behar asked Flake why it had to be Brett Kavanaugh on the Court, as opposed to another nominee chosen by President Donald Trump.

“That’s a valid view,” Flake said. “On the flip side, people would say — with some justification — that if the mere allegation with no corroboration is sufficient to disqualify someone, weve entered a new phase that we probably don’t want to enter.”

“So you didn’t believe her?” Hostin asked, following up.

“I don’t know,” Flake said. He added, “I don’t know if I believed him either.”
