Mitt Romney Takes Obama Calling Him ‘The Grandfather Of Obamacare’ As A Compliment

Mitt Romney has faced criticism for having a health care plan under his administration in Massachusetts similar to the Affordable Care Act under President Obama, a charge that Romney has distanced himself from. But while he was in Florida earlier today, Romney said that he considers being referred to by Obama as “the grandfather of Obamacare” as a “compliment.”

Romney touted his record of accomplishment while he was the governor of Massachusetts, and said this on the subject of health care while speaking to an audience in Miami.

“I have experience in health care reform. Now and then the president says I’m the grandfather of Obamacare. I don’t think he meant that as a compliment but I’ll take it.”

However, Romney still made it clear he intends to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

Romney proceeded to go down the list of what was in the Massachusetts plan, before concluding that he still believes

that it could work at the state level but not having “the federal government stepping in, and telling people, here’s the kind of insurance you have to have.” Romney campaign advisor Kevin Madden explained in an e-mail to the Huffington Post that Romney was “dismantl[ing] the faulty logic of Obamacare” in his comments.
