Trump Tweets Contradict McMaster Comments On Alleged Russia Intel Leak

Trump McMaster

In a pair of Tweets Tuesday morning President Donald Trump seemingly confirmed and defended his decision to share confidential information with senior Russian officials in the Oval Office. While Trump didn’t specifically admit to sharing the classified intel, the Tweets left very little room for interpretation.

In the universe of Trump Tweets, the latest pair would normally be par for the course, but in this case, they take on added significance as they contradict a statement issued by National Security Adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster.

In very terse comments outside the White House, McMaster issued a full denial of the Washington Post story “as reported” adding that, “at no time, were intelligence sources or methods discussed.”

The National Security Advisor is expected to appear with Press Secretary Sean Spicer at Tuesday’s daily press briefing. In addition to a broader explanation of what exactly transpired with the Russians, he will now likely face questions over whether he mislead the American public.

In the words of Reagan — here we go again.
