Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) accused Donald Trump of “setting the stage” for World War III with his recent talk about NATO and Russia.

On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, Moskowitz blasted House Republicans over their vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, chalking the decision up to Trump.

“I don’t know who Mike Johnson is. It’s clear Donald Trump is Speaker of the House,” he said.

The Democratic lawmaker dismissed the effect of the impeachment vote, describing it as a fruitless political exercise.

“The only thing that’s going to change is his Wikipedia page,” he said about Mayorkas.

Moskowitz accused House Republicans of refusing to support a bipartisan border deal and a deal that includes backing for Ukraine and elsewhere simply because they do not want to hand President Joe Biden a victory. He further dismissed talk from Trump and others about the potential of World War III under Biden due to the multiple global crises the United States is embroiled in.

“[Trump] wants to change how the United States is viewed around the world,” Moskowitz told MSNBC host Al Sharpton. “I mean, the idea that he wants to get back into office, and he wants to have better relationships with China and Russia, right, who are trying to destabilize the world should send literally shivers down Americans’ spine. You know, he talks about, Joe Biden is going to start

World War II — by the way, that happened in the ’40s — but Donald Trump, what he’s talking about dealing with Russia, if Russia would start invading Europe, that would start World War III, by the way. Donald Trump is talking about that and setting the stage.”

Trump recently declared he would not provide support or security for NATO countries that have not met their financial obligations to the global body. He recalled that a country’s leader asked him if they could count on protection from the United States if Russia invaded, but the country being invaded was behind on the bills.

“I said, ‘You didn’t pay, you’re delinquent,'” Trump said. “No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want.”

The statement, Moskowitz claimed, will alienate Trump from every world leader other than Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“You can be sure every single world leader other than Vladimir Putin saw that and said there is no way America can have him back as president,” he said.
