Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) encouraged Israel to “keep wiping out” Iranian scientists and military officials on Thursday after the country launched an attack on Iran.
Reacting to an Israeli defense official’s claim that the Iranian military leadership and nuclear scientists were “all eliminated” in an Israeli attack, Fetterman urged Israel to keep going.
“Our commitment to Israel must be absolute and I fully support this attack,” he wrote. “Keep wiping out Iranian leadership and the nuclear personnel. We must provide whatever is necessary—military, intelligence, weaponry—to fully back Israel in striking Iran.”
Responding to another report which claimed two nuclear scientists “were killed when Israel attacked their homes in targeted assassinations,” Fetterman posted, “Here’s your negotiations,” along with an Israeli flag emoji.
In recent months, Fetterman has repeatedly encouraged both Israel and President Donald Trump to attack Iran.
“We cannot negotiate with Iran,” the senator wrote in May. “It’s time to destroy their nuclear program and neutralize the remaining capabilities of its proxies. I remain steadfast with Israel. Provide whatever is necessary to carry this out.”
In April, Fetterman urged Trump to “waste that s—t” and “destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities.”
Fetterman’s increasingly hawkish remarks have reportedly disturbed several people close to him, including his wife Gisele Barreto Fetterman, who reportedly had “tears in her eyes” over her husband’s unwavering support for Israel’s bombings in Gaza.
“They are bombing refugee camps. How can you support this?” she reportedly asked her husband, to which the senator replied, “That’s all propaganda.”
“One staffer told me there would be entire days when they couldn’t let anyone outside the office be around him because he was in ‘some sort of state’ and might say ‘really fucked-up shit to constituents,'” reported New York Magazine‘s Intelligencer. “He was saying ‘unhinged shit,’ according to one text, and spending more time on social media.”
