Michael Cohen pointed to his former boss, Donald Trump, “hawking” $400 gold sneakers as the latest example that he “doesn’t care about America” and is grifting the “poorest” of Americans while massive legal bills stack up.

Cohen spoke with CNN’s John Berman on Monday following Trump being ordered last week to pay more than $350 million in his New York fraud trial, where he was also barred from doing business in New York for three years. The former president was charged with fraud, including inflating the value of his properties to obtain loans.

A day after he was ordered to pay the $300 million-plus, Trump showed up at Philadelphia’s Sneaker Con to introduce new gold sneakers that will run consumers around $400.

Cohen argued to Berman that Trump’s massive debts make him vulnerable to foreign powers, and he assured the CNN host that his former client does not have the cash reserves to meet his legal debts.

“He doesn’t care about America. He’s out there hawking sneakers!” Cohen said. “He’s out there hawking whatever he can, grifting off the poorest of Americans. Think about it. Who is supporting Donald Trump and the use of his 757 plane? Who is supporting Donald with all of his legal fees? It’s the poorest people in America, and that’s what Vladimir Putin would be taking advantage

of,” he said.

The former Trump lawyer and “fixer” was sentenced to three years in 2018 after being convicted of multiple charges, including campaign finance violations and tax fraud.

Cohen will be testifying in Trump’s upcoming March 25 trial centered around a hush money payment Trump allegedly paid (through Cohen) to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election to cover up an affair.
