Former President Donald Trump thanked several people during his rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Friday, heaping particular praise on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
Trump delivered remarks ahead of Saturday’s South Carolina Republican primary, where he is expected to handily defeat Nikki Haley, the state’s former two-term governor. Haley has rebuffed demands to withdraw from the race. Greene has called for “eradicating” Haley from the Republican Party for continuing her campaign after last month’s New Hampshire primary.
After thanking South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), Trump turned to another person, lauding them before revealing their identity.
“Now, a really shy person,” Trump said sarcastically. “A person that, I mean, honestly, she’s a good person. She’s been with me for so long. She’s been with me in good times and bad times. If times are bad, she’ll call me up and say, ‘Don’t worry about it, Sir. You’re doing great.’ And if times are good, she’ll call me up twice. But she’s a fantastic person. She’s a very smart person and very respected in Congress. A lot of people don’t know how respected she is – Marjorie Taylor Greene.”
The crowd cheered, with many in attendance giving her a standing ovation.
Greene has been a controversial figure, to say the least. In 2021,
Greene has also suggested that the Rothschild family used spacecraft to start wildfires in California and said that “Pelosi’s gazpacho police” are spying on members of Congress.
