BREAKING: Several Boys Rescued as Risky Thailand Cave Rescue Operation Underway (UPDATED)
This story has been updated below.
For over nine hours the rescue operation has been underway in the Thai cave where 12 boys have been trapped for over two weeks. Now media is reporting that the first of the trapped boys have emerged from the cave, as ambulances have sped away from the scene.
Fear of rising waters finally pushed the dangerous rescue attempt to begin, with divers attempting the guide the boys through the dark, underwater caves to freedom.
The Tham Luang cave system is a complicated network, flooded, and the flood waters are rising Sunday morning. Eighteen divers are participating, foreign and Thai citizens. A Thai rescue diver attempting to navigate the caves on Friday passed out and died.
The local official in charge of the operation, Narongsak Osottanakorn, confirmed to media that the operation is fully underway. “This is D-Day,” he said.
