CNN Won’t Air Anti-Dobbs Ads
At this point it’s a bit of a lose-lose situation for CNN where Lou Dobbs is concerned. Regardless of what they do there is just no way to look good. To wit: HuffPo is reporting that CNN is refusing to air the anti-Dobbs commercials the website put together to protest Dobbs’ Obama-Birther coverage (below).
But now a source at Media Matters says that cable providers have refused to let it run on CNN — for all but a portion of the New York viewing audience. According to the Media Matters official, five of the six cable providers contracted for the project have informed the group that they are declining to put the spot on CNN. All of them will air the ad on Fox News and MSNBC.
In case you weren’t aware, cable stations don’t actually have control over what commercials air on their stations. UPDATE: A CNN spokesperson tell us “CNN retains the right to object to any ad run by the cable operator on our network whose purpose is to attack CNN or our employees.”
That said, does the refusal to air them give them extra credence? Or make CNN appear as if they are going to extra lengths to protect Dobbs? Or will it just speed up the process of get Dobbs out of the headlines? Or will any this even matter after Olbermann does his thing on tonight’s Countdown?
