Hallmark Card’s Space Metaphors Demeaning To African-Americans, Says NAACP

video

The NAACP is up in arms against a Hallmark graduation card they say puts racist rhetoric in the mouths of Hoots and Yoyo, two of the companies staple characters. The card makes references to extraterrestrial objects the graduate is capable of conquering, including what Hallmark says are “black holes,” but what the civil rights advocacy group says is a demeaning reference to African-American women.

“It sounds like a group of children laughing and joking about blackness. Again,” explained a representative of the group at a press conference where they called for the card to be taken off the shelves, which it has been. The characters talk about various space objects, later saying, “You black holes, you’re so ominous!… Watch your back!,” a joke a Hallmark representative claimed was intended to express that the graduate could now take on anything, including anti-matter. Representatives of the NAACP, however, argued that the word “holes” was pronounced with a very audible “r” sound, making it “very demeaning to African-American women when they made reference to African-American women as whores and then said ‘watch your back.’”

The card has been pulled from shelves, although Hallmark spokespeople say the card had been on the shelves for three years without incident, and that they are trying to “learn from this experience.”

they are trying to “learn from this experience.”

They should have learned not to let a handful of loons intimidate them with their hysterical looniness. This has to be one of the dumbest stories I have ever read.

I think I am going to boycott Liquid Paper. I am really offended by the term White Out.

And I am going to boycott Wonder Bread. White Bread is a term I find highly offensive.

And I am going to boycott Nabisco…. I am so very offended by their use of the word cracker.

I think I am going to boycott Duran Duran because when they sing Wild Boys, I hear *white whore”.
I demand they stop selling that song!

Oh, give me an F*’g BREAK! Must be Hallmark didn’t get the racialist extortion demand to cough up cash to their “charity” or suffer the pain of being exposed for having delivered some concocted “racial offense”.

And who are the WEENIES at Hallmark who just didn’t tell the NAACP to shove their “offense” up th their own “Black Hole” (which, for fear of “offense”, applies universally to all humanity; EVERYONE’s got one!)

Seriously ? You couldn’t fact check the One fact in this story , the characters names . You must have *misheard* the reporter , funny how that happens.

    this is a joke, right?

I have ears too, and I listened to this audio several times very closely using an expensive set of ear-buds, so that I could carefully hear each word’s pronunciation, and so no outside sounds could distort whatever I heard.

With that so, I heard absolutely nothing out of order or offensive in any way whatsoever.

These so called “leaders” of the NAACP would stop looking at the world with an unfounded feculent mindset, through fecal plugged ears and with fecal stained goggles, for hidden racism that doesn’t exist, if it didn’t profit them.

And, they should be ashamed of themselves for making yet another wholly unwarranted and damaging allegation.

You can bet that their next arms length move will be to find a way to quietly extort Hallmark for an exorbitant cash ~contribution~ to fund one or more of their many intertwined and incestuous racial dividing tax free ~programs~, that one or more of their cousins, in-laws, close friends or family members is being overpaid to operate, in the fallacious name of “Racial Equality”.

It’s sad to see a once needed, good, useful & proud organization that’s been around for 100 years now, deliberately become a race baiting grotesque caricature of it’s former self. All in an obtuse attempt to profit and maintain it’s former relevance, even though the world has changed while they refuse to do so.

This is another perfect example of how the civil rights movement has been hijacked by unethical street thugs trying to keep their tenuous grasp on political and financial power, and to fill their pockets a little more along the way, while they create false tensions to inflame and confuse the otherwise complaisant nature of today’s true racial reality, beyond reason worth and comprehension.

Worst of all, this nonsense won’t ever stop unless we all join together to call them out over and over again, for each and every one of their acts of race baiting and all their other seriously menacing misdeeds.

  • Fuzzlenutter

This really does go to show how thoroughly uneducated and willfully ignorant the NAACP actually is…

  • am_underground

My God, is it me or has the NAACP gone off the deep end. It’s time corporations stand up to these black race bating groups and tell them to go to hell.

  • darkangel

NAACP is great ! They have the words-Colored- People -in their title , but this Hallmark card is offensive ?

    Amazing.

  • timzank

    Just Tex, very well said.

What’s funny is when most people don’t understand a joke, they either laugh along anyway or they ask someone to explain it. These morons call a press conference and threaten a greeting card company because they don’t understand science references?. Really says a lot about the educational level of the highest ranking members of the oldest and most prominent civil rights organization in our country, doesn’t it?

Can you imagine how proud Martin Luther King Jr. would be??

  • PaavoNurmi

Had to read this article twice before I understood what it was talking about. The writer should have mentioned somewhere that it’s talking about an *audio* greeting card.

But yes, the NAACP complaint is dumb. I never thought of the phrase “black hole” in the terms that that the NAACP complains about, but now that they’ve publicized that usage nationwide, I’m sure it will be the first thing that pops into people’s minds. Way to go, NAACP!

  • PureFreedom

Yet this group is the main pushing power and the same voters for Obama and the Dems.

This group also attacked and criticized Bill Cosby because he said for Black men to start taking responsibility with there children and school and to stop dreaming of being rap stars and blaming everyone else for there failures…

The NAACP is the African Americans worst enemy!

  • http://none pyrope

OK, I admit it, I’m just a cracker honkie, and there’s no way I can ever understand the “black experience,” but I tell you I have deliberated seriously about the offense taken by some in the black community, and here’s what I’ve come up with:

The NAACP is not, as PureFreedom says, America’s worst enemy. Rather, I believe this organization is the worst enemy of the black race in the United States.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (but don’t dare call a black person–who skin is actually a shade of brown–a “colored person), use intimidation tactics to cause a disruption and discord everywhere they go. This causes the non-blacks to think less of our black neighbors, in general, and thus the basis of my postulation that the NAACP is actually the worst enemy the black community has.

Furthermore, their teachings would have us believe that blacks are still victims, in spite of affirmative action, quota hiring, intergration, and all the other advancements that have put blacks on an equal basis (and in some cases given blacks preference over other races) everywhere in industry, schools, government, and society, in general.

That the NAACP has foisted off on the black community a systematic claim of victimhood has what I believe to be a damaging psychological effect on the very segment of the population they claim to represent. In other words, because of the NAACP (and we might as well include the “Rainbow Coalition” and all the other organizations led by professional victims), black people feel entitled to consider themselves victims and, what’s worse, not equal among other races!!!

And while I’m speaking of the entitlement class, those who feel the world has its boot on their necks and thus refuse to even try to break out of the mold, become angry. They would have the rest of the country believe their anger is focused on the blue-eyed devils who have repressed them since time imemorial, but in actuality, I am given to believe their hate and resentment is for themselves.

I wish Charles Payne, Thomas Sowell, Bill Cosby, Walter Williams, and a few other blacks whom I admire could be asked to comment on the validity of my remarks.

  • Phocus2

OMG…a whole room full of professional victims. Proof that blacks and be just as stupid and the next color. Come on, no one’s talkin bout yo momma…boneheads.

  • LaFong

This exercise in proud idiocy is just the latest example of the Race Grievance Mongers gone mad. A few years ago a white aid to the Mayor of Washington DC had to resign for using the word “niggardly” during a budget meeting.

The NAACP is a total disgrace as is the whole corrupt liberal edifice that funds and enables them. But what else is new.

You folks are great…..seriously…….you said all I was going to, only better, so I will just close with this short comment….(well, shorter than it could have been……..please forgive me if I cover similar ground, I am just SO FRUSTRATED).

Does anyone know if the NAACP (NOT ANOTHER ASININE COMPLAINT PLEASE!!!!) made the complaint with a straight face? Considering the pitiful number of out of wedlock births in the black community; and the joblessness, and illiteracy/drop out rates, the health issues with soaring diabetes, high BP and cholesterol, the absence of black fathers in the homes, etc, etc, etc………..when did they solve those devastating problems to find time to “zero in like a laser” on the black hole travasty?

If it were not so unbelievably rediculous, (like one of my kids complaining the her brother was “touching” her, as they sat crammed side-by-side, in the back seat of the car with a number of other children), it would be heart breaking.

These poor souls have been not only underserved but irreparably “led astray”, by their so-called leaders, who care not a fig about their own people. They are race-baters, and not even to help their own folks, but because they have a personal and insatiable appetite for power, money and attention. They have so brainwashed their communites with their lies, that even when someone like Bill Crosby speaks to them, pointing out many of these things…………….few stop to really listen, and instead turn on their own, and devouring them, along with the truth that could set them free.

We are many, many years away from slavery and slave owners, how long are we going to allow this monster to be fed and nurtured like it was the most precious thing about them that they have? I appreciate looking back on ones history to learn and grow, but if every group that were ever abused and misused were to nurtured and tended their grudges like this organization does, we would be even a greater mess than we are now.

There are a number of groups in this country that have equally harrowing stories to tell…………. very seldom hear a peep out of them, but then who could hear them over that most serious complaint of “Black Holes” mentioned in a greeting card. I remember some nut job recently on some city counsel or something, demanding an apology from the mayor or comissioner, because when discussing the budget, he said they were almost “in the black”. If those who feel so offended really want to work out their stresses, why don’t'they go to Africa or the middle east and protest slavery there. It is an active, present day problem (especially in Africa…..no whites involved), not a part of history that these folks are bound and determined to do CPR and Defibrillator shocks on to keep alive, even if it is only a twitch, until they distroy themselves. Oi Vey!!!!!! Is this real or have we slipped into another dimension? P.S. I think I am almost as upset with the cowards at Hallmark. They are not learning anything but to be willing victims of the professonal shake down artists that the NAACP has perfected.

  • darkangel

I have many African- American friends who for the first time are voting republican this year and in 2012. They have seen the liberal/progressive sewage and fraud . They will not be fooled again .

Hallmark should have stood their ground. The NAACP claim was so transparent and contrived it set their cause back years. The NAACP wanted something from Hallmark and when they didn’t get it they manufactured a controversy. If Hallmark had stood their ground guaranteed they would have sold more cards because the public is wise to the tactics that the NAACP, Jackson ,and Sharpeton use and are sick and tired of them and ready an waiting to go the the rescue if needed.

timzank says: “Can you imagine how proud Martin Luther King Jr. would be??”

MLK has been spinning faster and faster in his grave, ever since Jesse (The Fraud) Jackson put that MLK blood stained shirt back on inside the airplane bathroom, on his way back to Chicago, so he could try to claim King’s top spot at the civil rights table.

He actually used King’s real blood as a prop, and the idiots bought it hook line and sinker, at least for a little while.

The truth is, MLK was a conservative pro-life republican, and right after King’s death so were all the other so called civil rights leaders.

But when Lydon Johnson waved billions in “Great Society” cash in their faces, signed the GOP led Civil Rights Act of 1964 to show his solidarity and bona fides’s, the rats at the top of the civil rights leadership dove for the piles of cash, faster than pirates on buried treasure.

I can remember when Jesse (The Fraud) Jackson and all the other so called civil rights leaders were vocal proponents of conservative policies and especially the pro-life cause.

Then, Jesse (The Fraud) Jackson decided to run for president, and they all threw their principles and the unborn under the bus, because the democrat party went nuclear over his announcement.

The end result of all this pitiful self serving amoral jockeying, has been total and utter dysfunction, with idiots like the current leaders of the NAACP thinking they can (still) make mountains, not out of molehills, but out of nothing but thin air.
