White House To Scarborough “Stop Being an A-hole” (Update – Scarborough Responds)
Nearly everyone accepts the slight absurdity of President Obama being awarded the Nobel Prize, coming as it does in only his 9th month in office and on the same day we bombed the moon. Still, the reaction from the right, as typified by Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, could be seen as being a tad over-the-top. According to Savannah Guthrie, the White House agrees. A senior administration official sent her an email that said Scarborough should “stop being an asshole.”
Here’s a clip of some of Joe’s cackling reaction (plus some bonus back and forth with Rush Limbaugh):
Well, is he being an asshole about it? Sure. Is he alone in doing so? Certainly not. The swift and venomous reaction from the right could come back to haunt them. While this is a surprise, even to the White House, it’s not like he was awarded a Pro Bowler’s Association trophy.
Perhaps it would have been wise for the right to hold fire until the President had a chance to speak, and figure out whether they’re laughing with him, or at him.
Update – Scarborough just tweeted the following: @NBCJoe – “I stand ashamed. I apologize to Ms. Tomei, the American people and to the Academy. Barack Obama is no Marisa Tomei.”

‘SLIGHT absurdity?’ Is that how it’s being characterized?’ LOL @ that.
I think the President is an asshole.
Oooh… No, Chris J… no. Too much…
Saying that the President (and his Administration) apparently have the thinnest skin EVER, and can’t take even a little criticism… is fine. But the pejorative… no, too much. I disagree with him often, but he is still the President, and deserves more respect for that, even if just for the office he holds.
Obama has everyone in the MSM by the balls, I am not surprisd to see Scarborough squeal under his thumb.
I think Chris Jones is an asshole. Nice leather jacket you closeted asshole.
And nice double chin, Jones-y!
Everyone should just calm down.
Obama admits he doesn’t deserve to be in the same company of some of the prior recipients. Much has already been said about the fact that Obama has done nothing to deserve this honor – at this point that may be true. However one thing that needs to be remembered is that words matter – they show intent – they give an insight into the future. Words are diplomacy and the rest of the world like the idea of that even of many in this country do not.
Did anybody else catch what Axelrod said toward the beginning? Axelrod said of Obama’s causes:
“…these are causes to which he’s devoted and to which, I think, the world wants (him) to be devoted.”
WTF? He’s NOT President of the WORLD!
Oh and by the Joe S can be an A**hole sometimes.
@til double chin? Is that all you got? pretty weak.

it matters what the rest of the world thinks because we want their help when we fight wars that we think are important. in the past we have acted bullish and then wondered why nobody else wants to help.
Chris Jones, you are fat. I’ve got more than that, but it looks like life has handed you one too many lemons. And believe me, you won’t cry yourself to sleep your whole life.
(Hey this has been fun!)
@til Come on, man. I know you can do better than calling me fat. You have a post-graduate degree, remember?
Joe Scarborough is an asshole.

Well, that’s the typical left-wing logic right now, but it hasn’t panned out to be truthful just yet. Are we receiving more help from other countries? No. Are we still hated by millions? Yes. The problem is the notion that we were somehow liked before Bush… we weren’t. And as long as we are the dominant super power, that’s not going to change.
Tommy Christopher?
I bet when you left that Junior High school newspaper behind you never expected to be covering the same crapola when you landed a real job, huh?
Well Joe if all you have to worry about are the wimps at the White House your going to have a good life. I wouldn’t turn my back on them but as long as you keep them in front of you, you got no problems.
This must be a full-time bit for lil “Chris” here. Usaing this forum to attempt to exorcise his childhood feelings of inadequacy. To say nothing of his 3rd-rate, completely unuducated, uncultured upbringing. Setting tiny, simplistic standards for himself – then endlessly failing to meet them. Resulting in a human Republiscum with an oral-rectal inversion. So typically rewarding for those of low socioeconomic rank. You go, Chrissy! Yup! The Land of The Little People. Pathos prevails.
Can someone update me as to why “Nachi” is allowed to comment here, when all he/she does is (attempt) to insult? I mean really… is Mediaite going to become TVN? Or is someone going to show a little backbone and boot this guy.
Scarborough. Those of us who know him best, have long known that he is but another Whitman’s Sampler
of a manipulative herd of bottom-feeders. A born-again “Christyun” , totally partisan under the guise of “patriotism.” Neo-fascists disguised as Christian Republicans. A bunch of rubes and hicks who find dignity and elegance so bewildering that they scorn all manifestations of culture and take refuge in an angry, bitter, hate-filled Putitanism. They “support the troops” – because they never ARE the troops! Dull drones of intellectual and moral abstinence and raw cowardice who have been impaled by Satin himself. Living lives of quiet desperation. Merchants of ignorance and bigotry and poverty and emptiness – drawn to similar hate-filled failures- like moths to the flame. “Morning Joe’s” indeed.

You need a dictionary, “Blue.” Your intellectual (lack) substance is of truths and history and personal weaknesses and lifetime failures. And being constantly reminded that you will never, ever be any better than that which you are today. Yup – I’d be depresed too!! You add so much to society by your wondrously intellectual offerings here. Um-hum! Speak, therefore, to us of…”guts.” Don’t worry. I won’t reduce you further. You’re tiny enough already. Have a good weekend. Slip inta yore ballcap, yer gangsta shorts, yer Shaq-tee, yer flip-flops, yer P/U – SUV, yer cell-phone. Spin you out sum gravel n head on down ta yer sportsbar. Sniff a bar-rag, talk tough – be a real man/Repug. Hit don’t git no better’n thet, do hit, boy!?!
Rat now. Rat cheer! Slong. Hail – I din think you people could BE insulted! Yup.
I won’t reduce you further. You’re tiny enough already.
You’ve already used this line. If all you’re going to do is insult people… you could at least not plagiarize yourself.
But once again, thanks for adding something substantial to the discussion. A man/woman so smart, he/she can never seem to talk about the topic at hand.
Scarborough is unwatchable (?). Mika reminds me of an abused woman that just can’t get enough of her man. I don’t have FBN on my cable or I might just be tempted to watch IMUS again. I was a fan of his for years and watched every day. I will say that the producers of the Joe show do an excellent job with the guests they have on but Joe is just such an a++ I can’t watch. Unlike most of you I love Willie and think he is the only one on there that is worth watching.
@ImNotBlue Nachi is a little crazy. There is always at least one on every blog. Better they express their anger on here then out in the world. @Nachi I can recommend a good shrink if your interested????
CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin: Supreme Court Will Not Overrule ‘Deem and Pass’

Bad news for Republicans should they be counting on using the Supreme Court as a last resort to block the Senate health care reform bill. Jeffrey Toobin visited Rick Sanchez today to talk about the chances of success Republicans will have if they try to legally oppose a "deem and pass" vote that would indirectly put the bill on the President's desk, and he didn't waste any time in telling the GOP that, quite simply, it's not going to happen.
CNN’s John King, USA Premieres On Web With Rehearsal Show
There are two very distinct things to note about the way CNN has introduced the upcoming 7pmET show John King, USA to its audience - the show itself and the way it happened. John King hosted a trial run of the program today on CNN.com/live, which gave a sneak peek at what the show will be, but also gave viewers a chance to give their take on the first look.
