Stewart Compares Rick Sanchez To Michael Scott… But Ultimately Takes High Road
Jon Stewart got his chance to fire back at Rick Sanchez for the comments that got the CNN anchor fired.
Earlier tonight there was a report Sanchez had apologized to the Daily Show host. And Stewart chose to took the high road – saying this was “a chance to get in touch with, not our dirtier, but our better Sanchezes.”
Stewart said he heard the comments and thought, “Why don’t we tape on Fridays?” But when it came time for his response, Stewart avoided all of the vast material he had accumulated on the Daily Show and instead focused on a different program: The Office. In a funny mash-up of the NBC show and Sanchez TwitVids (like this one), Stewart equated Rick Sanchez to Michael Scott. “Carell is leaving the office, NBC’s looking to replace him,” said Stewart. “Danny McBride ain’t gonna do it. Sanchez is available.”
But Stewart found an in to slam the rest of the media, for blowing the story of his weekend charity show appearance out of proportion. “If CNN got rid of Rick Sanchez because they didn’t like his show, fine, we weren’t that crazy about it either,” said Stewart. But for those comments? “I’m not even sure Sanchez believes what he’s saying.”
Instead, he played a clip of Sanchez calling out a legitimate bigot. And it put things in some perspective.
Here’s the clip, from Comedy Central tonight:
