Stewart Compares Rick Sanchez To Michael Scott… But Ultimately Takes High Road

Jon Stewart got his chance to fire back at Rick Sanchez for the comments that got the CNN anchor fired.

Earlier tonight there was a report Sanchez had apologized to the Daily Show host. And Stewart chose to took the high road – saying this was “a chance to get in touch with, not our dirtier, but our better Sanchezes.”

Stewart said he heard the comments and thought, “Why don’t we tape on Fridays?” But when it came time for his response, Stewart avoided all of the vast material he had accumulated on the Daily Show and instead focused on a different program: The Office. In a funny mash-up of the NBC show and Sanchez TwitVids (like this one), Stewart equated Rick Sanchez to Michael Scott. “Carell is leaving the office, NBC’s looking to replace him,” said Stewart. “Danny McBride ain’t gonna do it. Sanchez is available.”

But Stewart found an in to slam the rest of the media, for blowing the story of his weekend charity show appearance out of proportion. “If CNN got rid of Rick Sanchez because they didn’t like his show, fine, we weren’t that crazy about it either,” said Stewart. But for those comments? “I’m not even sure Sanchez believes what he’s saying.”

Instead, he played a clip of Sanchez calling out a legitimate bigot. And it put things in some perspective.

Here’s the clip, from Comedy Central tonight:

As classy and brilliant as we all hoped. Point Stewart.

Stewart’s brother Larry Leibovitz is the Chief Operating Officer of the NY Stock Exchange. Both Stewart and his brother (and tribal brothers) on Wall Street and at almost every single major media outlet supported Obama overwhelmingly. So, ya know, they can’t be bigots.

Jews always take the high road. Good on you Stewart.

Stewart is the most trusted and probably the most influential newsman in the U.S. right now.

What kind of a WORLD do we live in where Jon SPEWart is the “most trusted and influential newsman”, yet the genius of Sean68 goes UNAPPRECIATED?!?!?!111

jackie, jon stewart is a comedian, he is not a news man. his show is about humor, not reporting the news.

This is why our country is so screwed up….

true, but who really is a “News Man” these days? more of these “News networks” have a bunch of entertainers / personalities who just read news stories…… same as Jon does

No our country is screwed up because the voices of the 20% crazies drown out the voices of the 80% normals. Hence Stewart’s rally 10/30 but you all would like the think its some loony left gathering….

And we know Stewart is a comedian. The thing is (and its been shown) that we like to get our news from multiple sources unlike lefty MSHITBC watchers and righty FAUX viewers (hence the most informed news watchers deal….).

    Ding ding ding!!!

No one gives flat out news anymore. The reason I enjoy the Daily Show is because he’s doing the same thing every other news program does….he just tacks really funny jokes on the end of it.

Since CNN is in the current Cable TV ratinging last place in EVERY TIME SLOT perhaps the executive temporarily running the Network took this as an opportunity to unload Rick Sanchez and his contract.

Keeping in mind that the Network’s top executive was fired last month and CNN is replacing another low-rated program host Larry King, that seems like a logical move.

Ricardo Sanchez’s comments are typical of the “sons of immigrants,” Hispanics that have a negative attitude toward Jews based on the religious traditions that their parents taught them.

It is ironic that there is no group of people that has given more of their personal charitable contributions at the community level to the recent immigrants and supported their representatives in the Congress for the Amnesty for the millions of Illegal Immigrants that they have been campaigning for, yet theyare vilified by the Hispanics for their efforts.

The Sanchez/Michael Scott mashup was inspired. I’m glad they gave us a little taste because it’s an angle that I haven’t seen covered elsewhere and now that you think about it, if Rick doesn’t want to go to a local station or radio, he’d be a good fit for the show.

That doesn’t exclude him from being the most trusted “newsman” by the public.

Reporters are and always have been “newsmen;” anchors are and always have been “personalities” who read the news.

Ah, so let’s trade a discussion on anti-Semitism for one that dabbles in anti-Catholicism. Great.
